Scarlett Pomers: Young Voyager

Written by Sydney Spiller

The work of an amazing young girl is never finished. There are always TV shows to do, movies to make, school to attend, songs to sing and horseback riding lessons to complete. Are you wondering who is brilliant enough to pull all of this off with the ease of a pro? Well, we all here at SMILE have the pleasure of introducing Scarlett Pomers, Superwoman!

At the startling young age of 11, Scarlett has been in 10 movies, done commercials and TV sitcoms, and has a reccurring role on the hit UPN series, "Star Trek Voyager." And what does she have to say about all of this? "It's great," she says, "I wanna keep doing this!"

Scarlett started acting when she was 3 years old - her first job a role in Michael Jackson's video for his song, "Heal the World." From there she went to commercials, and then on to the major stuff! "I thought it was really cool at first," she says, "And now I am really into it because I know it's a great career." Sounds mature, doesn't she? Well, she is!

Landing her role in "Star Trek Voyager" was pretty simple - she auditioned and instantly got the part. "I love the people I work with," she adds, "everyone makes me laugh." She's basically the only kid on the set, so we were glad to hear she likes hangin' out with the crew. And although now she is a devoted fan of the show, she reveals that her older brother, Shane, was the die hard fanatic. "He used to kick us out of the den on Wednesdays to watch it!" she says.

So what about the make up? When she's in character, Scarlett has to wear tiny horns placed down the center of her forehead. And it doesn't even take a long time to put them on. "Two minutes at the most," she says. "But my godfather on the show has to wear a lot of make up so he sleeps in the chair." She also explained that her horns are adhesive, so they stick right on her face. Then a little paint is added to give it a more realistic feel. "It really looks real," she says. So what about the set? Scarlett says the set is "just like being on a real ship. I sometimes wonder if Sick Bay is real." Way out, huh?

Aside from the show, she's been in such movies as "Baby Geniuses" (the voice of baby Carrie), "Happy, Texas," "The Babysitter's Club" movie and "Erin Brockovich," with Julia Roberts. And get this - she also has her own singing group called Spiral. "It's me and my two friends," she says of the group, which will put out an album sometime next year. Wanna know what else? She's got her own website, too! At SCARLETTPOMERS.COM, and on the Scarlett Pomers Club on yahoo, info on the child star is available. In the club, she even does live chats.

But by far our favorite aspect of Scarlett is the fact that she is a devout Sailor Moon fan! "I love Sailor Moon," she says. "I have a whole collection - dolls, a costume and videos!" She says she used to sit with a friend and talk about Sailor Moon all day! "I started to make a script for Sailor Moon," she adds. And we say go for it - after all, any fan of Sailor Moon is tops with us! We wish Scarlett the best in all she does. She's definitely someone to be amazed about! =)
